TIP Telecom Infra Project

The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is an engineering-focused initiative driven by operators, infrastructure providers, system integrators, and other technology companies that aim to reimagine the traditional approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure.

Current Projects
TIP now shared the fist set of technical projects and the chairs.  The projects covering three aspects: Access, Back haul and Core & Management. Each projects area listed as follow:

Access

  1. SK Telecom chaired to conducting System integration and site optimization. they are looking for profitable E2E (end to end) solutions for rural and urban regions via new integration via innovative, cost-effective and efficient solutions.
  2. Nokia and SK Telecom co-chaired to Un-bundled solutions for morden access solution, specifically through a cost-effective approach for low-power, low-maintenance solutions.
  3. Intel chaired for media friendly solutions, it focusing on methods to increase effective throughput and further enhance the mobile user experience by bringing compute and storage capacity closer to the network edge.

Backhaul

  1. Facebook chared for high-frequency autonomic access. Defining thin and extensible software stack to autonomously coordinate routing, addressing and security related functions in packet-switched IPv6 networks.
  2. Equinix and Facebook co-chaired for Open Optical Packet Transport, Defining Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) open packet transport architecture that triggers new pace of technology innovation and flexibility, and avoids implementation lock-ins.

Core and Management

  1. Intel chaired for Core network optimization. New innovation through disaggregation of traditional telecom core network via deconstructing traditionally bundled components.
  2. Deutsche Telkom, Facebook and Nokia co-chaired for Green filed Telecom Netowrk. Accelerating operator-friendly evolution towards a pure and efficient IT-based network architecture via greenfield solutions designed from the ground up.

Contributions
Also, over the last several weeks, Facebook announced new connectivity systems such as Terragraph, ARIES and Open/R, focused on improving the speed, efficiency, and quality of internet connectivity around the world. Facebook will continue to iterate on these projects with the ultimate goal of contributing them to TIP project groups and the broader community.

We’re excited about the momentum behind TIP and look forward to sharing more details on the project groups and more technology contributions soon. If you are interested in getting involved, you can reach out here. Stay tuned for more!

Members of TIP
TIP members include operators, infrastructure providers, system integrators, and other technology companies joining together to innovate new technologies and approaches to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure across emerging and more mature markets.
