Communications Infrastructure – Outside Plant (OSP) Designer

What an OSP Designer required to know:

Seeking an experienced Communications Infrastructure OSP designer of a technical mindset that is organized, motivated and a good self-manager. Willingness and ability to dig in and take project responsibility from conceptual stage through construction support stage is a must. Compensation will be based on practical hands-on experience including demonstration of competency and obtaining results.

Position entails physical layer network infrastructure design components including fiber optic cable, copper cable, aerial, underground, conduit, vaults, building entries and interior cable raceways. Responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
 Aerial and underground field data measurement and documentation
 Field design
 Red-line layouts
 Base mapping layouts
 Coordination of permitting for public Right of Way
 Contacting and interfacing with multiple governing agencies
 Utility pole joint use permitting
 Permit application preparation and submittal
 Technical specification writing
 Coordination and procurement of installation contractor bids and quotes
 Coordination of material pricing and material procurement
 Construction oversight
 General project design lifecycle support.

Successful candidate must have practical experience in OSP design and fielding with knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of fiber optics and communications infrastructure design. Candidate must have the ability to measure and document legible field design notes and transfer to a design drawing layout set to a specified scale and with spatial accuracy and neatness. Good hand drafting, lettering and neatness are required. Proficiency in the Microsoft Operating System environment and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook are required. Proficiency in CAD is desired, but not required.

Positions are available for both part-time and full-time with flexible schedules. Some travel is required primarily within the Pacific Northwest. Position involves a mix of administrative, office related work and field work, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle and/or ability to obtain transportation to and from project sites.
