The following Youtube video from HSM IT Services (Edmonton, AB) notes how “electricians are often contracted to run data cable (Cat5e, Cat6) while installing electrical wire. Many times, they do a bad job and we have to clean up the mess,” observes the Canadian structured cabling installer firm.
Why exactly do they say this? “Several reasons,” notes the video’s technician-narrator, as he steps through a re-cabling jobsite he says was wired for data by some previous electricians — and POTS technicians — on the site:
— “They pull too hard on the data cable, causing it to tear or bend.”
— “They do not support the data cable in the ceiling properly.”
— “They do not terminate the data cable properly. This causes it to fail its certification.”
